NEL adoption of the Single National Formulary
Single National Formulary (SNF) categories now live on NEL netFormulary
North East London has adopted the SNF categorisation system, which went live on the NEL netFormulary on 23 October 2026.
The new SNF categories replace the previous Red, Amber and Green terminology with nationally aligned descriptive categories.
What does this mean for prescribers?
For most medicines, this is a change to the category name and presentation. Existing formulary decisions, prescribing pathways and governance arrangements remain unchanged unless a separate change has been agreed and communicated.
Prescribers should continue to refer to the NEL netFormulary for current formulary categorisation and prescribing information.
