FOR ACTION: SNOMED CODES – Vaccinations given by another healthcare provider
Dear Practice Colleagues,
We want to update you regarding recent changes to SNOMED codes and the process for claiming vaccination and immunisation payments via CQRS.
The SNOMED codes for “given by other healthcare provider” have gradually been retired and have been replaced by the “GMS flag” or “Event Done” logic from 2025 onwards. The GMS flag/Event Done helps to clarify whether a vaccination was provided under your practice’s GMS contract (including PMS and APMS). If the GMS flag is set to ‘true’, this means the vaccine was delivered as part of the practice’s contract and is eligible for payment. If the GMS flag is set to ‘false’, it means the vaccine was either provided outside of the contract or by another healthcare provider and should not be claimed for payment. For TPP SystmOne practices the Event Done flag needs to be “Yes” for vaccines given as part to the contract or “No” for those vaccines given outside of the contract or by another healthcare provider.
To support you with these changes, please refer to the Standards and Core Contractual Requirement document here: NHS England » General practice vaccination and immunisation services: standards and core contractual requirements Section 5 provides information on how to correctly code events in your GP IT system, especially for vaccinations carried out by other providers, such as school services.
You can find a list of current and valid SNOMED codes here: Primary Care Domain Reference Set Portal – NHS England Digital
