FIT aid In service Evaluation & Advance Briefing

Posted on:

The NHS Bowel Cancer Screening Programme Team and the Equalities Team have been working in partnership with RNIBThomas Pocklington Trust, MAST (the FIT Test Kit manufacturer) and patients to develop a FIT aid to support those who are blind, partially sighted to complete their FIT test independently.

NHSE are pleased to say that from Monday 13 May 2024, they will be working with all the screening hubs to evaluate the FIT aid with people who are due to be invited to complete their bowel cancer screening and have registered/self-identified that they need reasonable adjustments as they are blind, partially sighted and/or have manual dexterity challenges. A set of FAQs is attached for key stakeholders and public and will be available on NHS Futures

The FIT aid may make it easier for them to do the test. If results show that having a FIT aid makes people who are blind or partially sighted more likely to complete their test, the programme may offer the tool more widely in the future. No action is required from primary care.
