Developing Your Primary Care Nursing Workforce – Advanced Clinical Practitioner

Do you have an ambition to grow and strengthen your nursing workforce within your practice or PCN?

Across primary care, we know that nurses play a vital role in delivering safe, accessible, and high-quality care to our communities. As services evolve and patient needs become more complex, there is a real opportunity to invest in our nursing teams—supporting them to develop new skills, expand their scope of practice, and take on enhanced clinical leadership roles.

One way we can do this is by introducing and supporting the development of the Advanced Clinical Practitioner (ACP) role within practices and PCNs. ACPs bring advanced clinical skills, autonomous decision-making, and leadership that can help improve access, continuity, and quality of care for patients, while also strengthening multidisciplinary working across teams.

We are keen to hear from practices and PCNs who are interested in developing this area—whether you already have plans in place or are just beginning to explore what this could look like for your workforce and your patients. This is about investing in people, creating clear career pathways, and building a sustainable, skilled workforce for the future of primary care.

There are experienced practice nurses looking for development opportunities within primary care in NEL.
