Children have immediate access to their own inhalers, spacers and auto injector pens.
Medications/spacers are labelled with their name in an easily accessible box or material bag.
School needs to have emergency kit of inhalers and auto injector pens with parental consent form signed which is on the Standard Asthma and Individual Allergy plan.
Tip: When purchasing Adrenaline Auto-Injectors (AAIs), ask your pharmacist for stock with the longest available expiry date. Devices often have up to 18 months before expiry when supplied directly from the manufacturer, helping to reduce costs and the frequency of replacement.
Money-saving tip: Check whether your school can reclaim VAT on emergency asthma and allergy equipment, including AAIs and spacers. Eligible academies and other qualifying organisations may be able to claim a VAT refund through HMRC. [gov.uk]
Make sure parents sign to use emergency supply and keep a copy as this only needs to be done once.
