B&D, Havering and Redbridge MSK Imaging Referrals: What Goes Where

To support practices in directing MSK diagnostic imaging referrals to the appropriate service, please refer to the attached guidance, which sets out the correct pathway for X-ray, ultrasound and MRI requests, including whether these should be referred directly for imaging or via the MSK SPoA.

Referrals to the MSK SPoA should be made for specialist MSK assessment and treatment, rather than for diagnostic imaging alone. Where specialist input is required following assessment and any necessary imaging, the SPoA provides the gateway to services including Pain, Orthopaedics, Rheumatology and Spinal Neurosurgery.
