FOR CASCADE: UKHSA Health Protection Briefing Note 2026/010: Outbreak of invasive meningococcal disease, Dorset

Posted on:

Dear colleagues,

UKHSA identified 3 cases of invasive meningococcal disease in Dorset with onset dates between Tuesday, 17 March 2026 and Sunday, 12 April 2026. All 3 cases have been confirmed as Neisseria meningitidis group B with the outbreak strain subtype R1 P1.19, subtype VR2 P1.15. This is a different subtype to the recent outbreak in the South East and these cases are not linked to that outbreak. The purpose of this briefing note is to detail the clinical and public health response.
