Advice requests and referrals

Posted on:

The below linked document shows the services across the acute NHS Trusts that are available as a single point of access for advice requests and referrals. South East London have experienced an increase in referrals from over the last 2-3 years from NEL residents. Whilst some of this may be patients choosing these providers, we believe this may be impacted by the single point of access via advice and refer.

The main points of note are:

  • If you wish to refer into one of these services, or request advice please select the request type ‘advice’ before making a referral and not ‘refer’.
For the services using Advice & Refer pathways you must select ‘advice’ as the request type, or the required service will not be visible
  • GPs should use this pathway to refer patients for appropriate specialities rather than out of area referrals.  Choice rules still apply for patients, and should continue to offer choice where this applies, i.e. “Consultant led Services
