Strengthening Patient Participation Across Newham – Support from the NPPGN
We are writing on behalf of the Newham Patient Participation Group Network (NPPGN), a collective of committed local patient volunteers working in partnership with GP practices across Newham. Our shared aim is to foster meaningful, effective Patient Participation Groups (PPGs) within every practice—ensuring that the patient voice is embedded in service development and delivery.
To support this, the NPPGN has developed a practical toolkit to help practices establish or enhance their PPGs. These resources offer a flexible framework that can be tailored to reflect the unique context and needs of each surgery and its patient population. The documents included are:
This initiative was warmly received at the Newham GP Forum on 9 May 2025, where discussions highlighted the powerful role of patient voices in shaping and advocating for local services. PPGs are not just advisory—they are collaborative partners in improving patient experience and outcomes.
We also encourage members of individual PPGs to join the NPPGN. Our monthly meetings provide a valuable forum for sharing insights, challenges, and good practice across surgeries, strengthening the collective impact of patient engagement in Newham.
If your practice would welcome support in setting up or developing your PPG, we would be delighted to assist. Please don’t hesitate to get in touch—we are here to collaborate in whatever capacity is most helpful.
