NHS England is marking Sexual Abuse and Sexual Violence Awareness week with a campaign to raise awareness of sexual assault referral centres (SARCs).

These specialist services offer practical, medical and emotional support 24/7 to anyone who has been raped, sexually assaulted or abused at any time in their life, and can be accessed directly and confidentially for victims who may not wish to go to the police at the time. As part of this campaign colleagues working in primary care are encouraged to familiarise themselves with the SARCs serving their local area to ensure patients needing help are supported, to use these assets to raise awareness of SARCs, and to access training on identifying and responding to sexual assault and abuse.
