Siklos - hydroxycarbamide tablet (paediatrics)
Siklos tablets can be used 2nd line in children with sickle cell disease if difficulty swallowing capsules. Tablets are significantly more expensive than capsules. SPC states 100mg Siklos tablets can be halved, and 1g tablets can be quartered for ease of dose rounding. |

FERRIC CARBOXYMALTOSE
Hospital Use Only Treatment of iron deficiency anaemia in paediatric inflammatory bowel disease and intestinal failure. Indicated if Hb <100g/L, refractory/intolerant to oral iron Dose: 15mg/kg iron, maximum 20mg/kg iron to allow for dose rounding. Maximum single dose 1000mg/day and maximum cumulative dose 1000mg/week. For doses greater than 1000mg iron, split the dose and give at least 7 days apart. |

Feospan modified-release capsules - restricted use in paediatrics (Manufacturer no longer supplying - Jan 2022)
Feospan m/r capsules were approved by DTC in December 2021 to treat iron deficiency anaema in children who are intolerant to Sytron (sodium feredetate) liquid and unable to take any other tablets/capsules. Modified-release preparations of iron should not routinely be used as they are less well absorbed. Feospan capsules should be prescribed from hospital only (not prescribable in NHS primary care). |
