Management of patients with heart damage from Kawasaki Disease
Kawasaki Disease is the leading cause of acquired heart disease in children in the UK with c.1000 children diagnosed each year. Some 19% of children affected will suffer serious heart damage and require lifelong specialist follow up to reduce the risk of a serious, life-threatening cardiac emergency.
The number of cases of Kawasaki Disease is rising fast, increasing numbers of patients are transitioning to the care of adult services, where there is significantly less awareness and experience of the condition than in paediatric services. To address these issues, guidance has been produced ‘Lifetime cardiovascular management of patients with previous Kawasaki Disease guidance’
