Clarification on radiology reports requested by Communitas Community ENT Service

Posted on:

We would like to clarify the process for radiology reports requested by the Communitas Community ENT Service.

GP practices may occasionally receive copies of imaging reports directly from radiology departments as part of their standard distribution process. If a report clearly shows that the scan was requested by Communitas Clinics/BHR Community ENT Service/Community ENT Service, please be assured that it will be reviewed by the clinician who requested it.

The responsible Communitas clinician will assess the results, arrange any necessary follow-up, and contact the patient directly where appropriate to discuss the findings and next steps. As the requesting service is responsible for reviewing and acting on these reports, no further action is needed from the patient’s GP unless specifically requested by our team or there are separate clinical concerns that require GP involvement.

We understand that receiving these reports can sometimes create uncertainty about follow-up responsibility. We have discussed this with the Radiology Department, who have advised that the automatic distribution process cannot be changed. As a result, GPs may continue to receive copies of reports even when Communitas Community ENT Service is the requesting provider.

We hope this clarification is helpful and thank you for your continued support and collaboration in providing high-quality care to our patients.
