Yellow Heat Health Alert
A Yellow Heat-Health Alert has been issued for London as outlined in the table below.
The Met Office advise that London may experience heat reaching the mid-to-high 20s on Sunday, increasing to the 30s on Monday, Tuesday and possibly Wednesday.
This indicates that significant impacts are possible across health and social care services.
Warning | Trigger level | Timings | Comms |
Yellow Heat-Health Alert | Low likelihood of medium impacts | Valid between 12:00 on Monday 11th Augustto 18:00 on Wednesday 13th August | Beat the Heat Advice; Guidance for Professionals in Protecting Vulnerable People during Periods of Hot Weather; and Hot Weather Comms Toolkit. |
The Yellow Wildfire Risk issued by the Natural Hazards Partnership on Wednesday 6th August otherwise remains in place until Monday 11th August for Eastern and Southern England (Including London).
A tripartite call was convened at 12:00 today to discuss the heat-health alert and potential impacts. No further coordination meetings are scheduled but the situation will continue to be monitored.
The Severe Weather and Natural Hazards Framework applies and is available on Resilience Direct in support of preparations.
Partners are requested to:
- Consider the individual agency actions outlined within the Framework.
- Take any necessary action within your own organisational and/or local plans.
- Review support to the vulnerable and potential impacts on events during the heat.
- Amplify messaging (detailed in the table above) through available routes as appropriate.
- Support ongoing situational awareness by reporting impacts by exception to the London Resilience Unit via the usual means.
