TNW and C&H: Statutory implementation of the Medical Examiner Service

Posted on:

We have recently received confirmation that the statutory implementation of the medical examiner system will now be enacted under legislation by the 9 September 2024

It will then be a statutory requirement for all deaths within our jurisdiction of Tower Hamlets, Waltham Forest, Newham, and the City of London (Square Mile) not accepted for coronial investigation to be reviewed by a medical examiner before a Medical Certificate of Cause of Death (MCCD) is written.

Please be informed that we are still reviewing all deaths (acute trust and community) and ask that you continue to refer any deaths to the Medical Examiner Service at Barts, so that we can ensure all processes are working smoothly.

Finally, thank you again for your patience and engagement in the implementation of the service.
