The NHS Staff Survey is coming to General Practice!
The NHS Staff Survey has been available to Trust staff for years, and its finally time for staff in Primary Care to have their say through the forthcoming General Practice Staff Survey (GPSS)
NEL practices now have the opportunity to participate in the national pilot. This is voluntary and the findings and experience will inform the development of a national General Practice survey. In the meantime, this is a chance for your staff to voice their experience and concerns.
This tool can help you to see the objective views of your staff, and potentially put in measures to aid retention.
Practice level results will go directly to the agreed named Practice contacts (e.g. Practice Manager and Lead GP) only. It may be helpful to confirm that data and survey information are handled by an external and approved organisation and all submissions are anonymous. Separate information and intelligence will be produced for employers and for ICBs/NHSEI.
Why should we participate?
- You will get a sense of how happy (or not) your staff are, and over time you will be able to gauge if things are getting better or worse within your practice.
- You will be able to see if staff wellbeing is influenced by internal factors, as well as external – and you will have a sense of elements of staff wellbeing that you can influence and improve.
- You will be able to compare your practice as an employer locally and nationally.
- As the survey is completely anonymous you get an objective view from staff without fear of repercussions.
- We’re very aware that front line staff can be at the receiving end of patient frustrations, and rarely thanked for their efforts. This survey will allow practice staff from all departments and levels to air their concerns and views; this can help practice managers and leaders put in place mechanisms to mitigate issues and help staff maintain wellbeing in their workplace.
- All of this can help aid retention at your practice – with happier staff and saving on recruitment costs!
The survey will be rolling out in October. Every staff member will need an nhs.net email address to participate; if any staff do not have their own nhs.net account there is still time to get one by contacting the IT helpdesk Itservicedesk.nelicb@nhs.net
