PH S7A Letter to NHS Professionals re Termination of London eRedbook pilot – NEL plan to extend

Posted on:

Further communication via email from NHS England, London on 9 Nov 2023 indicated the decommission of the eRedbook (supported by Sitekit) across London from 31 Dec 2023.

North East London stakeholders have continued to engage in discussions to raise concerns regarding the impact this would have on parents, children, and services in relation to babies, children, and young people. Across NEL, the eRedbook plays a significant function in the delivery of services. Parents across NEL have really engaged with this digital parent held record, with highest number of connections nationally. NEL is also committed to a journey towards Net Zero and the amount of paper involved in eRedbooks is considerable. Paper books often get lost or forgotten but the eRedbook cannot be and can be viewed by anyone involved in the child’s care anywhere at any time.

We are pleased to advise that NEL is supporting the extension of the eRedbook across North East London (Barking and Dagenham, City of London, Hackney, Havering, Newham, Tower Hamlets and Waltham Forest). This will support the transition of the eRedbook to a sustainable national child health digital record as that becomes available.

This means that the eRedbook facility to receive and store details of new-born screening, immunisation and other features will continue to be available for babies living in North East London.

Sitekit will be writing to parents and carers who have registrations and currently reside in the above-mentioned London boroughs to let them know that their activation will remain and that they can continue to use all functionalities of the eRedbook.

What this may mean for your service:

To continue to use the eRedbook within your service as you currently do.

  • Any data that you are accessing through eRedbook will continue to be available.
  • You will still be able to input data into eRedbook .
  • You will still be able to support self-weighing, health promotion messaging, parental consented data sharing functions.
  • You will still be able to Connect (antenatally) or vouch for new connections postnatally as per current practice.

As further developments take place, we will of course update you all accordingly.

Thank you for your ongoing support.

Yours Sincerely

Diane Jones, Chief Nurse, NEL ICB

Paul Gilluley, Chief Medical Officer, NEL ICB
