NHS 111 Mental Health Crisis Response Service Now Live in North East London

Posted on:

As you may now be aware, a new mental health crisis response service has launched across North East London, as of Tuesday 2nd April 2024.

The service – which is run collaboratively with the North East London NHS Foundation Trust – ensures that people experiencing mental health crises are able to access support via NHS 111, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

Those living in your borough are now able to call 111 and select option ‘2’ on their phone keypad, putting them through to our mental health service based in the East London Foundation Trust’s crisis hub in Tower Hamlets.

The purpose of this email it to inform you, as a local GP in North East London, that you may receive documented information from our NHS 111 hub after our call handlers have conducted initial on-the-phone assessments with patients – if they belong to your surgery.

Where appropriate, we will request follow-up support from GPs by sending a structured summary of the caller’s mental health requirements, and will clearly and succinctly highlight any further actions that are being requested.

If you have any questions about potential referrals, or the operations of our new 111 Mental Health Service in North East London, don’t hesitate to contact our Crisis Pathway Service Manager in Tower Hamlets, Melanie King, at melanie.king2@nhs.net.

We would be grateful if you could share this message with any of your GP colleagues/networks for wider dissemination.
