New Way to Refer to Newham Specialist Children and Young People’s Service

Posted on:

We have been working on a new way to process referrals to Specialist Children and Young People’s Service (SCYPS) to speed things up and ensure that the information you send can quickly get to the right team.

From 25 January 2024, when you go to the SCYPS section on the ELFT website here, you will be offered a new option to make a referral. A Chatbot message will pop up inviting you to start the referral. You will then need to select the specific SCYPS team you wish to refer to. Simply complete the information fields as usual and then press ‘Send’ to submit it.

This new option will mean that information will no longer have to go through a central filtering process but will go straight to the team that you, and the child or young person, require. This will speed things up and mean that the family will be in contact with the service in a more timely way. It will also mean that we get key information that we need from the very start.

To recap, the teams that you can refer to in this way are:

  • Speech and Language Therapy
  • Occupational Therapy
  • Physiotherapy
  • Children’s Community Nursing Service
  • Paediatricians
  • Autism Diagnostic Service
  • DieteticsĀ

If you are not sure of the service you want to request for a family or need advice on a patient’s specialist need, please email: elft.scyps@nhs.net for more help. We are not switching off the ‘old’ system until we are sure the new one is working to its optimum. The usual online referral form will remain on the page for the moment – but the chatbot is quicker!

We hope you will welcome this new approach which will make things easier for you as a referrer and provide a better service for the families we all support
