New Safe Surgeries toolkit for clinicians – supporting people seeking asylum and refugees in primary care

Doctors of the World is pleased to announce the launch of the new Safe Surgeries toolkit designed to support clinicians caring for people seeking asylum and refugees in primary care.

Access the toolkit here

Clinicians in primary care play a critical role in supporting people seeking asylum and refugees, who often face complex and unmet health and social needs and barriers to care. However, system-level pressures – such as workforce shortages, limited appointment times, and difficulties accessing interpreters and specialist services – can make providing care challenging.

The  new toolkit provides practical guidance, useful tips, and signposting to further resources to support clinicians to deliver informed, compassionate, and person-centred care to those navigating the asylum system.

What’s in the toolkit?

  • An overview of the asylum process and healthcare entitlement
  • Guidance on initial health assessments, catch-up vaccinations, and providing medical evidence and letters
  • Recommendations on best practice in interpreting, safeguarding, and trauma-informed care
  • Signposting to useful resources, guidance and training

We would be grateful if you could please share this resource with your networks.
