NEL IPC “Gloves off” campaign
An e-mail was sent by NEL IPC in February requesting if you would be interested in participating in a “Gloves are off” campaign currently being launched in NEL for primary and community care settings.
Thank you to those of you who have responded. Your participation in this project is greatly appreciated.
We are reaching out to see if any of you would still like to participate in this project.
Just to remind you that the brief for the project is as follows:
The use of non-sterile gloves has been associated with a significant potential for cross-contamination and transmission of healthcare-associated infections (HAIs). This is because they are often used when they are not needed, put on too early, taken off too late or not changed at critical points. Research shows that patients often feel uncomfortable with inappropriate use of gloves for personal tasks.
The ‘Gloves are off’ campaign, being launched for community and primary care providers in NEL, aims to improve patient safety by ensuring that patients and their families are seen by staff with clean hands. The aims of the project are to:
• reduce community acquired infections
• improve hand hygiene compliance
• reduce the level of dermatitis in staff due to the overuse of gloves
• improve environmental impact.
If you would like to participate, please send your confirmation via e-mail to Lori loredana.nechita1@nhs.net.
The confirmation deadline date is Friday, 19 July.
We look forward to hearing from you and your participation in this exciting and worthwhile project.
