Measles, Mumps, Rubella & Varicella (chickenpox) (MMRV) resources
Since 1 January, the Measles, Mumps, Rubella & Varicella (chickenpox) (MMRV) vaccine has been offered as part of the routine childhood immunisation programme. The combined MMRV vaccination means many thousands of children will gain additional protection against chickenpox for the first time in the UK. Just 2 doses of this vaccine will provide long-lasting protection again 4 serious diseases: measles, mumps, rubella and chickenpox (also known as varicella). This also includes information from the UK Health Security Agency to support clinical conversations.
UKHSA, NHS England (NHSE) and the Department of Health and Social Care (DHSC) have a range of resources to support with communicating the rollout of this vaccine:
- NHSE press release: ‘Hundreds of thousands of young children now to be protected against chickenpox’
- UKHSA and NHSE stakeholder communications toolkit on the Campaign Resource Centre (CRC): resources to help communicate the MMRV vaccine
- NHSE primary care toolkit on CRC
- MMRV social media assets and post copy
- Videos for primary care screens
- UKHSA blog: ‘What is the MMRV vaccine and is my child eligible?’
- UKHSA blog: ‘Changes to the childhood vaccination schedule from January 2026’
You can also view the recording and slides from our webinar in December 2025 to health professionals to explain the changes to the routine immunisation schedule.
