LAS CSP Red escalation and activation of W30

Posted on:

Dear Colleagues

Following a Pan London regional call chaired by London NHS Gold, in support of patient safety relating the volumes of held Category 2 and Category delays across North London (NCL, NWL and NEL)  LAS have activated RED status as per the LAS winter plan and escalation framework (slide 27).

As part of that plan, please can all community and ACP options be exercised and promoted including, but not limited to SDEC, Frailty, virtual wards, pharmacy first, GP appointments, and other admission/conveyance alternatives, rapid response, UCR and any other community response models Please could community providers take actions where possible to ensure sufficient capacity for referrals

As part of this escalation to RED which has been supported by national NHSE, W30 has been activated for NEL, NWL and NCL, and acute trusts will be expected to offload ambulances less than 30 minutes to achieve a <26minute average,  Currently NEL is achieving 25.4 minutes, with recognition that as the afternoon progresses and demand increases that pressures will build

Please can colleagues look to their teams where support can be given at the front door, through discharge pathways, and please do escalate any actions that require SCC input should be made without delay including repatriations, out of area delays and any other issues

This request is made in full acknowledgement and appreciation of the pressures that teams are under and with the considerable efforts being undertaken already in maximising safety for patients and teams.
