Impact of BMA industrial action on Homerton Healthcare Services – June / July 2024

Posted on:

Staffing across Homerton Healthcare will be stretched during the BMA junior doctor industrial action taking place in June, with changes to how we deliver our non-urgent services from 7am on Thursday 27 June to 7am on Thursday 2 July.

Impact is likely to be felt in the days following the strike periods too.

As always, the Trust is prioritising patient safety and patients with urgent care needs. These strikes will be challenging as it is coming at a very busy time of year.

We are asking that over the next few days ahead of the beginning of industrial action that you make the most of your discussions with specialist teams to plan ahead for patients at high risk of instability.

Our admission avoidance services; SDEC (formally HAMU) will be running a nurse led service for the periods of industrial action. During this time GPs should continue to refer urgent patients through the established urgent and emergency care pathways. There is no change to the GP pathways to refer urgent cases. If you call the switchboard as normal, you will be connected to the appropriate support.

We are again advising that there may be an impact on response times for Advice and Guidance services. Please continue to submit your requests in the usual way, but there may be some delay in receiving a response both during the industrial action and for a few days afterwards.  Teams will do all they can to reply to your request as soon as they can.
