We are delighted to announce that expressions of interest are now open for practices and Primary Care Networks (PCNs) wishing to host a General Practice Nursing Vocational Training Scheme (GPN VTS) trainee for the next cohort commencing in January 2027.
The GPN VTS is a well-established and successful programme that supports Registered Nurses who are new to General Practice Nursing to develop the knowledge, skills and confidence required to become competent and capable General Practice Nurses. It offers a structured pathway into primary care, combining academic learning with supervised clinical practice.

By hosting a GPN VTS trainee, your practice or PCN will:
*Develop and grow your future nursing workforce
*Support the sustainability of General Practice Nursing across North East London
*Benefit from a trainee whose skills, competence and contribution will increase throughout the programme
*Receive dedicated support from the GPN VTS team throughout recruitment, onboarding and training
*Access available NHSE training support and clinical supervision funding
*Help address local nursing workforce challenges through a sustainable “grow your own” approach
Flexible Hosting Models
We recognise that practices have different levels of capacity and infrastructure. Therefore, a range of hosting models are available:
- Single Practice Model – one practice hosts a trainee.
- Shared Practice Model – two or more practices work collaboratively to host a trainee.
- PCN Model – trainees work across practices within a PCN, maximising learning opportunities and workforce benefit.
Further information on these models, funding arrangements and programme requirements will be sent out after formal EOI commitment forms are completed.
