FOR INFO AND ACTION: Hep B 3rd Dose Vaccinations Q1 2025/26 – Manual Claim Adjustment Required
On behalf of: London Immunisation Team, NHS England London Region
Due to changes to the selective neonatal Hep B programme, the payment indicator within CQRS for the completing 3rd monovalent hep B dose (given at 12 months), under payment indicator HEP003, has been retired. Please note that this is because the 3rd monovalent hep B dose given to babies on the selective pathway will stop completely from 1st July 2025.This is a result of broader changes to the routine children’s immunisations schedule and the introduction of a new 6in1 appointment at 18-month-old from 1st January 2026.
In London last year, a hep B domiciliary vaccination service began with a remit to vaccinate babies on the selective hep B pathway at home. Many GP Practices in London opted into this service, allowing it to provide the four-week monovalent hep B vaccine, the 12-month monovalent hep B vaccine (stopping on 1st July 2025) and hep B testing all at home.
Please note that any GP Practices who did not opt into the hep B home service and who continue to provide the 12 month hep B dose, will be required to submit a manual claim for all completing 3rd doses of monovalent Hep B vaccination events given each month in the 1st Quarter of 2025/26.
Please raise a claim with the London Imms Team who will process a manual adjustment in CQRS. The team will add the number of completing 3rd dose vaccination events to the existing indicator in CQRS before the payment is approved. Please do not declare claims within the CQRS system until any missed doses have been manually added by the team.
We expect these manual adjustment numbers to be small.
Following the change to the programme, please also be aware of the following information:
Recording of the outcome of the blood test (preferably DBS) to ascertain the presence of Hepatitis B in children on the HepB selective neonatal and infant immunisation pathways, has always been part of the core GP contract. This was previously linked to the 12-month monovalent vaccination, funded via an IOS fee. Following the policy decision to remove this vaccination as a result of the introduction of a universal Hep B containing Hexavalent vaccine at 18 months, the test will no longer be linked to the 12-month vaccination event and can be carried out at any point between 12 and 18 months. The recording of the results of the blood test, as with the recording of the clinical outcome of any test, is a core contractual requirement and is funded via the global sum.
Please note that for GP practices that opted into the hep B home service, the DBS test can be carried out by the hep B home service, rather than the GP Practice.
