Covid 19 treatment for eligible patients
As Covid-19 can spread more easily during the winter months, it’s important that patients who are at highest risk of becoming seriously ill if they catch Covid-19 are aware of the steps to take to get the help they need.
People in north east London that have a health condition that puts them at the highest risk may be eligible for Covid-19 treatments. It’s important that these treatments are provided as quickly as possible to be effective. Please continue to make eligible patients aware of this service and refer them as soon as possible.

Who is eligible?
People living in north east London are eligible for Covid-19 treatments assessment if they are:
- people aged 85 years and over
- people with end-stage heart failure who have a long-term ventricular assistance device
- people on the organ transplant waiting list
- people aged 70 years and over, or who have a BMI of 35 kg/m2 or more, diabetes or heart failure, and:
- are resident in a care home, or
- are already hospitalised.
Getting tested
Those eligible for Covid-19 treatments can pick up free Covid-19 rapid lateral flow kits from their local pharmacy. The pharmacy may request medical history details.
Testing positive
GPs are asked to either refer, or direct the patient to self-refer to the provider:

The provider will contact patients directly to confirm eligibility, discuss, and if appropriate, arrange treatment. GPs are not required to prescribe any Covid-19 therapeutics.
