BHR Community Dermatology service update

Posted on:

The NEL ICB Planned Care team would like to update you on some upcoming changes to the BHR Community Dermatology service. These changes will improve the service offer to BHR patients and the Planned Care team have consulted with Clinical Leads Dr Anju Gupta and Shujah Hameed and LMC representatives Dr Najeeb Seedat and Madhu Pathak in developing these. Please see further details below and some documents included  with further information.

RAS service

DMC has worked with the ICB and agreed to move to a RAS platform on ERS (Referral assessment service). This allows triaging of patients without having to have appointments booked for them. RAS also allows primary care clinicians to have a two-way conversation with a provider and the ICB will work with DMC to add this feature on to the platform asap. We are proposing to switch to RAS from 1 September 2024 and DMC will soon share further communication nearer to the time to remind GPs of this.

Lesion Photo clinic for routine referrals.

DMC have introduced a new internal pathway which Planned Care Leads in BHR have approved. This pathway impacts those patients that have lesions and are referred for F2F appointments (GPs can continue to refer as they do now with no change). To improve the triage process for DMC, patients with lesions will be invited to have their images taken prior to the appointment . This will be arranged by DMC (a similar process takes place in secondary care now in line with NHSE recommendations) and these will be used to assess their referral, thereby allowing some patients to be booked directly to minor surgery clinics if this is required. This pathway will also commence from 1st September 2024. Please continue to refer as you do now, and DMC will book patients in for LPC where this is deemed appropriate.

Along with this email there are some associated documents for RAS and LPC. We would be grateful if you could share these with GP practice staff.

If you have any further queries on the roll out of these, you can reach out to the DMC service manager Andras Horvath on Andras.Horvath@dmchealthcare.co.uk
