Armed Forces Community Project
We wanted to make you aware of a new project to support the mental health of the Armed Forces community living in Havering, Barking & Dagenham.
We have arranged 4 drop in taster sessions. The project leaflet and the drop-in leaflet are below.
Practices are asked to pass this information onto any Armed forces personnel or their families that you are supporting and anyone in your team I would be grateful.
The Armed Forces Community Programme
AFCP is a dedicated mental health and wellbeing support programme for: service personnel, veterans, reservist, cadet force adult volunteers, their partners and children. The Programme aims to promote good mental health with activities and resources to empower individuals and families to navigate challenges, strengthen relationships, and foster recovery within the community.
The Programme offers:
- An initial assessment to establish mental health support needs, existing social network, and the best way to support them to achieve the identified goals
- A Wellbeing Programme that empowers participants with coping strategies, stress management techniques, and tools for improving mental health. Delivered in group settings, it promotes peer learning and shared experiences.
- Group and 1-1 support
- Tailored information and signposting to supportive services
- Workshops and volunteering opportunities
- Peer Groups and family events reduce isolation by creating welcoming spaces for social connection and shared understanding, reinforcing a sense of community.
- Family-focused interventions, offering tools to better manage stress, build stronger relationships, and promote wellbeing. By engaging families together in group sessions and family activities, it will foster a sense of unity and support, reducing isolation.
- Access to Armed Forces Champions specialising in housing, pensions and benefits
- Programme delivery will be centred on St George’s Health and Wellbeing Hub 113 Suttons Ln, Hornchurch RM12 6RR
