Maternal and infant hepatitis B surveillance programme

A comprehensive programme of enhanced surveillance of HBV screen positive women and babies born to these women will be introduced from April 2021.This will build on the existing
surveillance programme established in the 1990s. The purpose of surveillance is to evaluate the impact of the infant selective immunisation programme on transmission of infection to the baby.

Please find resources here:
Guidance on the hepatitis B antenatal screening and selective neonatal immunisation pathway and the hep b babies aide memoire

The 12 month DBS card is supplied in the DBS kits. The kits are usually issued directly to the GP surgery by the local CHIS when the infant is approx. 11 months old.

For the London area – to request additional kits you need to email ENGLAND.DBSKITS-LONDON@NHS.NET

The relevant CHIS then requests the kit to be issued by Pearl Chemist in Mitchem road, Tooting.

Queries around the pathway can be directed to UKHSA, Colindale: HepatitisBBabies@ukhsa.gov.uk
