Dear Colleagues,
You may be aware of communications issued previously by your commissioner regarding the formal and standardised introduction of the offensive waste stream.
We write to inform you that North East London ICB will be going live with this implementation from the 1st of May 2024.
What to expect?
- From the implementation date above, on your next scheduled collection, you will have roll(s) of offensive waste bags (tiger bags) delivered at your premises by the attending waste contractor. No orange bags will be left these are only for incineration and infectious waste.
- Your collections will continue as normal thereafter with no frequency changes with the expectation that the majority of the bagged waste will now be classed as offensive waste, so please replace bags in all waste containers previously utilising orange bags with the newly provided tiger bags in time for your next schedule collection.
The Regulations changed back in September 2022 . We have allowed for a stock reserve any orange bag for contingency use in the event of a patient presenting as infectious (Category B) and where any soft waste may be generated. Should you have limited or no orange bag stocks remaining, but to gain more please open a service ticket via your Anenta account making a request. A maximum of 1 roll (25 bags) will be delivered on the subsequent scheduled collection.
- The are no changes to the management of sharps containers and their colour coding. Continue to utilise these as normal. You will however note over time that the body of sharps containers changes to grey or a mustard colour as these will contain recycled plastics. The lid colour however will not be changing.
What action should I take?
- Please log into your Anenta account (www.vector.anenta.com) and review the documents presented in the documents section named “Offensive waste implementation”. This contains a number of documents including the approved risk assessment which has been fully reviewed by IPC.
- If you have not yet done so, complete the questions presented when asked to complete your pre-acceptance audit on your dashboard within your Anenta account.
- If you have not yet done so, please complete the Duty of Care audit as instructed in your Anenta account. It is important that this separate audit is done to accompany your pre-acceptance audit as the evidentiary element
- From your Anenta account please print and laminate the offensive waste signage poster and place on any wall above the location of the offensive waste container
- Have in place a bin somewhere central within the premises that contains an orange bag for immediate use should it be required.
- We must encourage and emphasise the importance of swan-neck ties for all bagged waste so please do not overfill the bags.
- If you have any queries that are not answered on the FAQ please do get in contact by opening a ticket from your Anenta account by clicking “How can we help?”
We appreciate your cooperation on this matter and please feel free to contact us should you have any issues or concerns.
