Antimicrobial Stewardship (AMS) is the cornerstone to reducing the spread of antimicrobial resistance in healthcare. Monitoring and promoting judicious use of antimicrobials is critical to preserve their effectiveness in the future.
Primary care is responsible for approximately 80% of antibiotic prescriptions. Effective stewardship helps optimise patient outcomes, minimise adverse events and slow the development of resistant organisms.
These dashboards have been adapted for local use from ePACT2 data and PrescQIPP dashboards to support antimicrobial stewardship activities at practice level. The reports have been developed to support the ambitions of the UK 5-year action plan year action plan 2024-2029 to reduce UK antimicrobial use in humans by 5% by 2029.
The data can be used to review prescribing trends by drug and duration at practice level, to benchmark prescribing and to facilitate targeted feedback and improvement initiatives.
