An Individual Funding Request (IFR) is a request to fund a treatment or intervention for an individual patient which falls outside of existing ICB contracts, criteria or policy. It should not be used as a mechanism to ‘bypass’ usual commissioning processes. The funding referral process requires a GP, Consultant or other clinician to submit an IFR application for treatment of a named patients, stating the nature of the circumstances that make it rare of exceptional. The patient may included a written submission to support their case.
