- Discuss preconception with women with diabetes at the annual review or during the contraception review.
- Start folic acid 5mg in all women planning pregnancy and consider in women who may become pregnant.
- Use insulin and metformin to aim for HbA1c < 48 mmol/mol if trying for a baby. Avoid other medications if possible.
- For women who are planning to, or may become pregnant, stop ACE/statins if possible.
- Ensure up-to-date eye screening and kidney function/urine ACR.
