UPDATED UKHSA Health Protection Briefing Note 2026/031: Case of Klebsiella aerogenes ST117 folliculitis in England
Posted on:
Dear colleagues,
The purpose of this briefing note is to detail the clinical and public health response.
Recent reports from Europe and the United States have described recurrent facial folliculitis caused by Klebsiella aerogenes among gay, bisexual and other men who have sex with men (GBMSM). Genomic investigations have identified a highly related lineage, suggesting a single genetic clone is circulating internationally. A confirmed case has recently been identified in England.
If you have any queries about the information cascaded, please follow the instructions in the briefing note for support. Please note: This is being cascaded on behalf of UKHSA
