GP Staff Survey 2025

Posted on:

In 2024 North East London participated in the General Practice Staff Survey. The ICB also received a summary report (non-identifiable) which provided insight into the workforce experience. The results of the survey were favourable. On average NEL practices scored well against their national peers. The report is included below.

We want as many staff working in General Practice as possible to have the opportunity to participate in this year’s survey. To enable the same robust methodology and impartiality as last year please see below template for completion by practices for the list of staff who will be taking part in the survey. This list will be provided to Picker, the independent survey provider, to enable individual survey invitations to staff. Individual invitations ensure all staff are given the opportunity to have their voice heard and enables the same robust methodology as used in the NHS Staff Survey for secondary care.

The NHS Long Term Workforce Plan commits to encouraging all NHS organisations to have staff feedback processes in place to ensure staff feedback is listened to and acted upon. Evidence shows this is beneficial to the experience and retention of staff, organisational outcomes and patient care.

If a member of your team does not have an individual email address, provision has been made to send a unique link to them on paper and you can indicate this on the template.

To see who should be included on the template, please see the staff list guidance included in the template. The main principle guiding the list collation is to include all people working at your practice regardless of their employer (PCN/Fed etc). For staff with more complex employment arrangements i.e., ARRS staff, please see the specific guidance contained within the template.

Please complete the staff list template attached and return as an attachment, to nelondonicb.primarycareplace@nhs.net by 15th August 2025.

Further information and guidance on the staff survey is provided below. If you have any queries or questions, please see the attached FAQs or if your answer cannot be found, please email niza.ravi@nhs.net or alyshea.jackson@nhs.net

Why should we participate?

  • You will get a sense of how happy (or not) your staff are, and over time you will be able to gauge if things are getting better or worse within your practice.
  • You will be able to see if staff wellbeing is influenced by internal factors, as well as external – and you will have a sense of elements of staff wellbeing that you can influence and improve.
  • You will be able to compare your practice as an employer locally and nationally.
  • As the survey is completely anonymous you get an objective view from staff without fear of repercussions.
  • We are very aware that front line staff can be at the receiving end of patient frustrations and rarely thanked for their efforts. This survey will allow practice staff from all departments and levels to air their concerns and views; this can help practice managers and leaders put in place mechanisms to mitigate issues and help staff maintain wellbeing in their workplace.
  • All of this can help aid retention at your practice – with happier staff and saving on recruitment costs!

The information you provide will only be used for staff survey purposes.
