accuRx – Video Consultation (VC) Decommission

Posted on:

As part of our continued work to ensure best value across all commissioned services and in response to the wider cost-reduction priorities across the NHS, we have undertaken a detailed review of the use of video consultation (VC) tools across North East London. Our analysis has shown that the uptake of the VC functionality within the accuRx OCVC platform remains consistently low and does not represent value for the level of investment currently committed.

In line with this, and to make the best use of available resources, we will be redirecting funding away from the accuRx VC feature and reallocating it towards other digital tools and capabilities that demonstrate greater impact and wider usage across practices in NEL. This approach will help ensure that our digital investments continue to reflect local needs and deliver meaningful benefits for both practices and patients.

In response, and in agreement with wider digital tool priorities, we will be proceeding with the decommissioning of the VC feature within accuRx. This will impact approx 110 practices across NEL.

To support continued patient care, we recommend that practices consider using Microsoft Teams as an alternative VC platform.

This solution has been trialled by our Digital First team, with practical guidance now available [ https://primarycare.northeastlondon.icb.nhs.uk/home/it/video-consultations-within-ms-teams/ ] to help practices make a smooth transition.

There are also VC capabilities through some of the telephony services contracted across NEL, which, if applies to your practice, may also suit your needs.

We fully appreciate that some practices may wish to continue incorporating VC into their clinical workflows.

If this is the case for your team, we encourage you to contact us as soon as possible so that we can discuss your specific needs and explore potential options together.
