Jitsu vax training

Posted on:

UKHSA London, NHSE London and LHEP together with the JITSUVAX team are delighted to invite London based health professionals to register for funded vaccine conversation training sessions based on Empathetic Refutational Interview Training (ERI) as part of the JITSUVAX  programme.

About the Programme: JITSUVAX is an EU Horizon 2020 funded global project coordinated by the University of Bristol, which investigates vaccine confidence among health professionals and provides evidence based training to improve confidence and competence when having vaccine conversations. Training includes motivational interviewing to address hesitancy and dispel myths and misinformation. Further information can be found through their website  Welcome – Jitsuvax the attached flyers and module syllabus.

About the training and intended audience: The ERI is a tool to guide conversations in cases where an individual, parent, guardian or carer declines vaccination. The training is aimed at supporting London based health professionals, including midwives, school nurses, public health professionals in local authorities and health protection teams, to deliver confident conversations about vaccines. Following the successful delivery of pilot sessions in Autumn 2023, funding has been secured to deliver further training across 2024. This provides the opportunity for a sustained and regular programme of vaccine communication training for staff across NHS Trusts, local authorities and health protection teams in London. This is important for the region, which has one of the lowest vaccination rates in the country and needs to effectively communicate with a diverse, highly mobile population that experiences substantial levels of health inequality.

Two training options are available:

  •  90-minute one off interview training workshop aimed at improving confidence and competence in approaching vaccine conversations through building knowledge about motivating factors for vaccination concerns, communication skills and skills to effectively refute vaccine-related misconceptions.
  • 2-day train-the-trainer workshop to support health professionals to train their colleagues to improve confidence and competence in vaccine conversations. The course will include understanding the background as to how the 90 minute sessions are developed, practical work including how to plan and deliver the training. The train-the-trainer approach allows the programme to be scaled up to support confident conversations across a larger footprint. You do not need to have attended the 90 minute session to take part in the train the trainer workshop.

The researchers will also send participants two follow-up questionnaires to complete one month and three months after training.
