Homerton Healthcare – General Paediatrics RAS

Posted on:

To provide a better patient experience, the Homerton Paediatric team have proposed introducing a Referral Assessment Service (RAS) on eRS for General Paediatric referrals. This would mean all general paediatric referrals are triaged by a clinician before they are booked into the correct clinic. Currently the general paediatric service is not directly bookable, due to capacity constraints.

Referral Assessment Services (RAS) will allow the team to:

assess the clinical referral information from the GP/referrer

  • decide on the most appropriate onward clinical pathway
  • arrange an appointment, where needed
  • return the triage request to the original referrer with advice, if an onward referral isn’t required.

This change will be implemented from 8 January 2024. Planned care will review the impact with the Trust in three months to decide if this is still the best way to manage paediatric referrals.

City and Hackney GPs should still access Advice and Guidance and the Urgent paediatric hotline as required.
