National supply shortages of medicines for Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD)
The Department of Health and Social Care has announced there is a national supply shortage of the medications for the treatment of Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD).
The shortage of these products is caused by a combination of manufacturing issues and an increase in global demand. The supply disruptions are expected to resolve at various dates between October and December 2023.
The current availability of different medication is fluid as the situation continues to change. Different strengths and preparations may be available at various times between now and December 2023.
To support clinicians, a memo and patient information leaflets has been jointly produced by the Mental Health Trusts and ICB to support prescribers and patients. The key message is to continue with the current prescription where possible; and only where unavoidable should changes should be made in dose or formulation in line with the product availability.
