Update on PDF Access Issue in Cerner Health Information Exchange (HIE)

Posted on:

From: Dr Asad Ashraf (NEL ICB Chief Clinical Information Officer and Digital Transformation Lead)

We are aware of the ongoing issue where practices are unable to open PDF documents within Cerner Health Information Exchange (HIE). Part of the infrastructure of the East London Patient Record (eLPR).

A further meeting took place today with Optum and NHS England to review the situation. The issue relates to legacy servers that are still running Windows Internet Explorer, which is no longer supported. As a result, the required security and connectivity standards are not being met, preventing PDFs from opening correctly. Optum (EMIS) and TPP are aware of the issue and are working on a solution that will be supported via Microsoft Edge.

At this stage, no confirmed timeline has been provided. NHS England are aware and will be following this problem to ensure a swift resolution. As an ICB we are pressing the national digital team to ensure a resolution is in place as soon as possible.

Further information will be shared as soon as we receive it.
