Spring Covid-19 vaccines: information for practice staff
Start and end date
- The Spring 2025 Covid-19 booster programme runs from 1 April to 17 June 2025.
Eligibility
- adults aged 75 years and over
- residents in a care home for older adults
- individuals aged 6 months and over who have a weakened immune system
Those with a weakened immune system
Eligibility is outlined in Green Book chapter 14a, tables 3 and 4. Some of the key groups are listed below but anyone unsure should speak to their GP or specialist.
- organ, bone marrow or stem cell transplant patients
- those being treated with systemic steroids for more than a month
- those living with HIV
- those receiving immunosuppressive or immunomodulating biological therapy, including children who are about to receive therapy
- those undergoing chemotherapy or radiotherapy
- those who require long-term treatment for immunosuppression
- those with a history of haematological malignancy including chronic leukaemia, lymphomas, and leukaemia
- those with genetic disorders affecting the immune system
How to get Spring Covid-19 vaccine
Eligible patients should be advised to come forward and do not need to wait to be invited. They can get the vaccine by:
- Booking online at http://nhs.uk/bookcovid or on the NHS App
- Calling 119
- Walking into a Covid-19 vaccination site – find their nearest at http://nhs.uk/covid-walk-in
- Attending a local vaccination event offering the spring Covid-19 vaccine
- Care home residents will be given one through their care home

- Access the list of walk in sites by borough.
Housebound patients
- Housebound patients will be contacted directly. If you think a patient is housebound and needs a visit, please contact your PCN manager who will re-direct the request to the roving team.
- Do not signpost patients to the ICB or 119.

Why get it?
- By springtime, protection from any earlier Covid-19 vaccination you may have had will be starting to wane.
- Covid-19 can still be very dangerous and even life threatening, particularly for older people and those with a weakened immune system.
- That’s why they and people who live in care homes for older adults are offered an additional Covid-19 vaccination in spring.
- Getting the vaccine if you are eligible, means you are much less likely to be hospitalised if you catch the virus.

Top up your protection against COVID-19 by getting vaccinated this spring if you are eligible. Those at increased risk from severe illness can get the vaccine, including those aged 75 or over, people with a weakened immune system or who live in an older adult care home. If eligible, you do not need to wait for an invitation to book your vaccine.
To book, please visit the NHS App, the NHS website (www.nhs.uk/book-vaccine) or call 119 for free. You may also be able to visit a walk-in site which does not require a booking (www.nhs.uk/covid-walk-in).
