NHS England’s National Estates Emergency Preparedness, Resilience and Response (EPRR) Team invite you to a webinar briefing concerning the Terrorism (Protection of Premises) Bill, more commonly referred to as Martyn’s Law, which is to be delivered between 1500 and 1600 hours on 8 April 2025.

The legislation.

The Terrorism (Protection of Premises) Bill will impose a legal duty on certain premises and events to take steps to reduce the likelihood of physical harm in the event of a terrorist attack.  It is intended to ensure public premises and events are better prepared for terrorist attacks, requiring them to take reasonably practicable steps, depending on their capacity, to mitigate the impact of a terrorist attack and reduce physical harm.

It will apply to healthcare settings, which means that, for a number of your sites, this legislation will bring new legal requirements not previously considered necessary. Compliance with this legislation will be overseen by a newly established regulator.

The Bill is currently in its final stage in the Lords and may receive Royal Assent in the spring of 2025.

Purpose of the briefing.

We will provide you with an overview of the legislation as well as discussing its potential implications within the NHS, the development of new guidance by NHS England’s National Estates Team, and sign posting to further support & advice.  There will also be the opportunity to learn about what can be done now to plan ahead, hear from professionals in the National Counter Terrorism Security Office (NaCTSO) about the tools and products available to assist your planning and how you can protect your organisation, its staff, and the public from terrorism.
