This course is specifically for those who administer the NHS Pension Scheme. It covers a wide range of topics which take the delegates through the lifetime events of a potential member, ensuring delegates are able to provide appropriate information to their staff whilst administering the scheme according to the latest legislative requirements.

This training is specifically about administering the ‘Officer’ pension – which is all your employed staff who are administered using the Pensions Online facility (i.e, not the ‘Practitioner’ pension which is specifically for doctors and is administered through PCSE).

The primary objective is to ensure that delegates are able to effectively and accurately administer the NHS Pension Scheme and stay up to date with legislative changes in order to ensure their staff receive the appropriate benefits.

Delegates will leave with a clear understanding of the essential elements of administration of the NHS Pension Scheme, including commonly occurring member scenarios such as opting out and retirement. Where a practice are using an outsource provider – they will be able to carry out random checks to ensure full compliance with scheme regulations.

Topics during the session include; NHS Pension Overview (‘Officer Members’), Understanding Pensionable Pay, Calculating Annualised Earnings, What Happens During Periods of Reduced Pay (Deeming), Ensuring Correct In-Year Administration, Common Employer Errors, Member Information (including: Increasing Benefits, McCloud Judgment, Early Retirement and Special Class Status), Retirement Options, Calculating Final Pensions/Lump Sums, End of Year Processing (plus: Bonus Topic – A Brief Overview of Practitioner Administration), Q&A (where delegates can raise specific issues they are experiencing in their own practice)

The three sessions are interactive and will require delegate participation. Delegates need to have working cameras and microphones to be able to actively participate and get the most from the session.
