All deaths in England now reviewed independently
Posted on:
On Monday 9 September Death Certification Reforms and statutory medical examiner system came into force. The first significant change in decades, this means all deaths in England and Wales will be independently reviewed, either by a coroner or medical examiner. NHS England has contact details for medical examiner offices in England, and recently published the National Medical Examiner’s report for 2023. The Royal College of Pathologists has published the National Medical Examiner’s good practice for supporting bereaved people and a summary of the death certification changes.
